Moments in our life

mentaledge01

I truly believe we were all put on this planet for certain moments in our lives. We may not understand what those moments may do for someone else and how it may change their life but they're definitely moments that wouldn't have happened without you.

The Saturday morning before my mom passed away the Dr came into her hospital room and requested; I join him in the hallway. So, while mom was sleeping, I slipped out of the room as quiet as possible.

Once in the hallway the Dr informed me that mom's organs were slowly shutting down and there was nothing, they could do to stop this final process, and that she probably had less than a week to live.

After about fifteen minutes of getting myself back together I reentered the hospital room and found mom awake and waiting on me.

Mom: Did you just see the Dr?

Me: Yes, he was just checking in on you.

Mom: What did he say?

Me: Nothing really, he was just checking on you.

Mom: Don't lie to me Sammy. He said I was going to die sometime very soon. Didn't he?

After a very long hug and a lot of crying I told her what he said.

For another half an hour we sat and just embraced each other, I remember her saying that she really wanted to have a last cigarette. (She smoked for over 40 years) I unfortunately had to tell her that wouldn't be possible because of all the machines she was hooked up to.

She replied with "well I guess I finally quit smoking."

Then the moment happened.

Mom: Sammy as much as I have loved you staying the night with me, I feel like God has you here for another bigger reason.

Me: God put me here last night so you wouldn't be alone.

Mom: Yes, that's true but he also put you here because you're the only person that can do what has to be done.

Me: What's that?

Mom: well here in a while the whole family will show up, and you have to go tell a mom that she is losing a daughter, tell a daughter she is losing a mom, a Husband that he's losing a wife, and brothers that they are losing a sister. Sammy you're the only person I know that has the strength to do this.

A couple of hours later I was sitting with my entire family and giving them the hardest and worst news ever.

Mom passed away 4 days later.

This was a moment that I had been prepared for my whole life and I had no idea. This was a strength I had developed and never gave myself credit for having.

You have had or will have certain moments in your life that will happen and only after they do, will you look back and realize that you were the only person capable of doing what had to be done. (good and bad)

This Blog post is to have you slow down and pay more attention to the moments that you may normally not think anything about, to start giving yourself credit for the strengths that others can see in you, but you have a hard time accepting you have, and to live your life making as many new moments as you can. (For yourself and for those around you)

You're worth living your best life, every moment of it.
